Week 2 - FX Tool

This week I started creating a tool in Houdini for our main effect, the ground breaking and cracking apart behind a driving car. It was suggested to me to create the large pieces using procedural animation to save on sim time.




Process

  • Created the crack using an L-Tree

  • Split the road geometry in half based on the crack

  • Fractured the road

  • Animated the two halves of the road independently based on the motion of the crack


Goals


For next week I am hoping to make the animation more believable. In order to do this I need to research more about for loops. If I can get the animation looking better by the end of the week I intend to start on the smaller RBD pieces.
