This week I worked on applying the effect to all three shots.
After seeing this lit and textured in our composited video here are my thoughts:
Shot 1:
Put a sphere under the effect to create a more rounded lifting effect like when moles dig underground.
Shot 2
Make the shot tighter so that it is following further behind the car but you can see some of the lifting on the edge of the frame
Shot 3
Further behind car and more lifting at end (similar to notes for shot 2)
Make separation wider.
Debris
I have also been tasked with creating debris. The debris source node was not creating the effect I want because the effect is animated and the of the pieces does not calculate correctly. As a result I am creating my own velocity:
